Description:
Ajwain (ajowan caraway) is known as omam podi in Tamil which belongs to the family of Apiaceae. In India, it is also called bishop’s weed, carom, and ova. Rajasthan is the leading producer of this crop with about 55% of the total output in the country. Ajwain caraway is an annual herbal plant and close relative of dill and cumin. The fragrance of the spice is very similar to the seeds of cumin and fennel. Ajwain seeds are tiny, oval-shaped seed fruit and ridged.
